After a 10-year career, crisis response canine Wally retired from his official duties.

Wally joined the FBI’s Crisis Response Canine Pilot Program in 2015, along with his partner, Gio—who retired in 2025.

As part of the FBI’s Victim Services Division (VSD), crisis response canines “have a special ability to mitigate victims’ stress and anxiety in almost any place at almost any time,” said Sho Sinha, who leads VSD.

“That takes training, dedication, and a lot of support,” she continued. “You could say that strong victims can make a case stronger. Over the course of an investigation and in the judicial process, crisis response canines can help victims calm their nerves enough to share their stories with investigators and juries.”

“Our success as both a law enforcement and an intelligence agency hinges on our ability to foster and maintain genuine partnerships with people in all communities,” said FBI Director Christopher Wray. “People like this year’s Leadership Award recipients… are building bridges and relationships while putting in the work to have hard conversations and find common purpose. They do it out of kindness and compassion with a sincere belief that justice — in its many forms — requires all of us to do the right thing in the right way.”
